2027 Genesis GV60 Magma Preview Hero

The wait for a Genesis performance division will soon be over when the 2027 GV60 Magma makes its much-anticipated debut. This sport-tuned GV60 will serve as the Genesis Magma program’s inaugural release, launching the brand’s foray into true performance driving. The track-focused EV will outpace the standard GV60 by 158 horsepower and 67 lb.-ft. of torque, with an estimated 0-to-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds. While it will certainly outperform its namesake in speed and handling, buyers can expect the Magma variant to retain the GV60 nameplate’s capability, comfort, and sophistication, presenting an irresistible abundance of both power and luxury. With other models soon to follow, including a Magma GT concept that’s currently in development, the Magma sub-brand is primed for expansion.

Powertrain and Performance

Genesis says the GV60 Magma will put out 641 horsepower and 583 lb.-ft. of torque via a dual-motor electric drive unit. It will also use a new High-Performance Battery Control system to regulate battery temperature for optimal driving capability. The Magma should have the same Electronic Control Suspension found in the standard GV60, while gaining front hydro G bushings and rear crossmember dual-layer bushings to reduce vibration and impact. The monoblock brake calipers will carry over, paired with GG-rated high-friction brake pads, and the exclusive 21-inch forged wheels will be wrapped in 275-millimeter Pirelli tires. To counter the typically quiet EV driving experience, the GV60 Magma is expected to incorporate a Virtual Gear Shift with torque and regenerative braking settings that replicate the feel of shifting, along with Magma-exclusive sounds that simulate the roar of an engine. We also expect it to include Boost Mode, which provides a 15-second surge of torque, as well as a drive selector with GT Mode to balance power and efficiency for high-speed cruising, Sprint Mode to prioritize speed, and Drift Mode to direct power to the rear wheels. Launch Control will optimize torque off the line while the customizable My Mode will allow drivers to tailor electronic limited slip differential settings to their preferences.

Exterior Design

As for the GV60 Magma’s style, Genesis will build from the core style of the standard GV60 but with a wider stance, lower profile, and revised front and rear bumpers. A fresh grille with a distinctive three-hole airflow structure will replace the GV60’s smooth fascia, while a side-skirt breather line and wing-type rear spoiler will help generate downforce. High-gloss black trim and black-finished aluminum detailing will accentuate the exterior, accompanied by striking orange brake calipers and Micro Lens Array headlights with black bezels.

Cabin and Amenities

No trim levels have been announced for the GV60 Magma, but Genesis has released details on several amenities. The cockpit will embody the Magma sub-brand’s track-inspired spirit without sacrificing the refinement that Genesis drivers expect. Chamude-upholstered performance seats will be complemented by high-gloss black, black aluminum, and orange accents, echoing the exterior. A top-rated Bang & Olufsen audio system has been confirmed, alongside active noise control, insulated glass, and reinforced door seals to ensure a serene cabin atmosphere. Engaging “Magma Mode” on the GV60 Magma’s digital instrument cluster will display gauges for driving metrics such as motor and battery temperatures, pedal input levels, G-force, and a performance timer. A head-up display will provide more driving information, including regenerative braking levels and remaining Boost Mode time.

Battery and Charging

Genesis estimates an 18-minute fast-charging time to bring the battery from 10 to 80 percent, in line with the standard GV60. The predicted charge time suggests that the GV60 Magma will use the same 84-kWh battery pack as the standard model, although Genesis has not confirmed battery specifications or released drive range or MPGe ratings.
